This past weekend we were away in Broadstairs which is a coastal town in Kent, situated between Margate and Ramsgate. Una had booked it as a surprise trip away for my birthday, leaving on Saturday morning and coming back Sunday evening, but we landed up extending it by another night so only headed home yesterday. We left fairly early on Saturday morning, and took about an hour and a half to get there, where we checked into our Airbnb and made ourselves at home. That afternoon we took a walk around the streets, gave Mia a bit of a run on the beach and popped into Morelli's Gelato for an ice-cream and a milkshake, followed by a walk along the coastal path before heading back to the house.
Since we were originally going to head back to London on Sunday, it was more enjoyable knowing we didn't have to pack up and make the drive back. After the morning around the house, we had booked into Wyatt and Jones for lunch, after having passed them on the Saturday and liking the look of their menu. After our Sunday roast there (definitely one of the best pork belly's I've ever had), we popped back home to pick up Mia and took a walk along the coastal path and back again, and then chilled out for the evening at home.
This morning I was up early and headed down to the beach to take a few sunrise photos. It had been ages since I was last out with my camera, so a bit rusty on the old photography, but good to get out and snap a few early morning photos again.
After Ellen had had her mid morning nap, we headed out with Mia for a walk and a run on the beach, followed by coffee at The Pavilion, and then fish and chips for lunch at the Seafarer Restaurant, and finally over to Morelli's Gelato for some dessert. It was then time to pack up the car and make our way back to London, arriving home early evening.
I had our jukka's steak night dinner booked in for last night, so after a quick turn around at home I made my way through to Liverpool Street and met up with the others, first for a beer at The Woodins Shades pub and then for dinner at Mac and Wild in Devonshire Square. With 50% off the butcher's cuts on a Monday evening, it was always going to be good, followed by an hour or so in the virtual shooting range downstairs which was a good laugh.
After a really nice weekend away and a steak dinner last night, plus only a four day week this week, not too bad having a birthday on a Tuesday this year :)
