From Monday last week until yesterday, the three of us had been out in Sardinia enjoying a late summer beach holiday out there. We had decided to go for a week around this time of the year when it wasn't quite as hot for Ellen, and timed it well with a nice week of warm weather while out there. After an early start last week Monday staying at the Gatwick Hilton Hotel, we caught our 06h30 flight out to Olbia, picked up our rental car and drove over to Castelsardo, about 2 hours away and checked into the Hotel & Spa Riviera.
The hotel we'd decided to stay in was right on the beach front with an ocean view, perfect for those afternoons and evenings when Ellen was napping and we could sit outside on the balcony. Most of the week was spent walking around Castelsardo and alternating between the sea and the hotel pool, with one of us upstairs in the room with Ellen while the other maximised some time in the sun :)
On Wednesday we did walk up to the castle, a decent stroll up to the top, but with the number of stairs inside the castle, we decided to not actually go in with the stroller, just admire the view over Castelsardo. On Thursday we took a drive out to Isola Rossa, about half an hour away just for a change of scenery and swim out there.
On Friday and Saturday we stayed fairly local and visited the Med Cafe for lunch which was superb, fairly basic but really tasty lunches, decent cocktails and a nice view overlooking the sea. Our only regret was not having gone there earlier in the week!
Yesterday morning we started off with a swim in the sea before packing up, checking out and heading over to Olbia in time for our flight back to the UK. Even though it went by rather quickly, was certainly a nice and relaxing break away!
