With the heatwave still continuing, I've tried to get to the park by work during most lunch breaks, and last week Wednesday Uns and Ellen came through and we spent lunchtime chilling out under the trees in the park in Charterhouse Square which is always nice!
On Thursday, Claire and Jack flew over for a few days in London, and after dropping their bags that Thursday afternoon, they all headed out to the park nearby the Olympic Stadium out in Stratford. Then once I was home from work and the little ones were both asleep, I fired up the Weber for a lamb braai that evening. Similarly on Friday, after their busy day out and once I was home from work, we had ourselves a steak braai for dinner - always a favourite of ours!
On Saturday morning we started off with breakfast at The Blackbird Bakery and afterwards headed through to Greenwich for 'Dinosaurs in the Wild', much to Jack's excitement! Even though I was quite looking forward to it, I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as it actually was - certainly was targeted to people of all ages, not just children. The experience took just under two hours, after which we headed back towards the O2 and decided to grab a drink outside at Greenwich Kitchen.
We then made our way to the Emirates Air Line to get the cable car over the Thames to the Royal Docks, where they had a temporary beach and pool set up for the summer, so landed up staying around there for some time while Jack went for a swim and play in the pool. Luckily they had some good shaded areas for missy to chill out and kick about.
From the Royal Docks we caught the train to Brown or Yellow Green Park to meet up with all the jukkas for a picnic in the park. Lozzie had organised a 'Christmas in July' picnic, even though she didn't make it until much later after a big Friday night out. But was good to see everyone there again, and after staying a couple of hours we then headed off home. That evening Uns and Claire had booked dinner at Kudu just down the road so I babysit while they headed off there for the evening.
On Sunday morning after breakfast at home, Claire and Jack made their way off to the airport while Uns, Ellen and myself chilled out around the house for the day which was nice and relaxing, as well as soaking up some of the nice afternoon sun.
Apparently we have another hot week coming up with temperatures in the low 30s each day, which is almost too hot to even get out to the park at lunch time, but I still give it a good try :) So instead of Uns and Ellen coming through at lunchtime, we might try head up to Telegraph Hill Park a couple of evenings this week when it's not that intense and searing heat, but slightly more enjoyable to sit outside and enjoy the mild evening temperatures.
