Last week Wednesday at lunchtime Uns and Ellen came through to Farringdon for lunch over at Charterhouse Square park and after work that evening I made my way down to Walton to fetch Mia who'd been down with Greg and Kim and the boys while we were in Italy.
Thursday evening we were just at home doing a bit of packing for our long weekend away and then on Friday morning, after Ellen had had her morning sleep, we all made our way up towards Norwich, stopping at The Chase in Thetford for lunch. After a bite to eat there, we continued over to Thorpe Forest to the Forest Holidays log cabins, where we were staying for the weekend. After checking in, unpacking and taking a walk around the resort, we spent the rest of the evening chilling out in the cabin, having a braai for dinner and relaxing in the hot tub.
On Saturday morning, after a drive to the shops for a few essentials for the weekend, we decided to carry on in the car around Thetford Forest Park while missy was having a good nap for herself. After a bit of a drive around there, we made our way back to the log cabin in time for the England vs Sweden football game which England won, taking them through to the semi-finals. Afterwards we went for a stroll through the forest and then that evening just chilled out around the cabin, with a braai for dinner and maximising the hot tub.
On Sunday we decided to head out east to the Suffolk coast, with Walberswick Beach being the one we decided on. The weather was exceptionally hot so didn't spend too much time there in the sun, but enough for Ellen to have a little kick about and for poochy to get a couple of walks along the sand, and completely avoid the water's edge! After the beach we tried The Anchor for lunch but they'd stopped serving food, so moved over to The Potter's Wheel Tearoom for a bite to eat there before making our way back to the log cabin for the evening.
Yesterday morning, after a walk through the forest and around the resort, we checked out and started our drive home. Since we were in no urgent rush to get back, we decided to stop off at Clacton-on-Sea for lunch as well as a bit of a break from the drive. It was alright, very much a typical Essex seaside town but we managed to get some fish and chips for lunch, followed by an ice-cream and a bit of a walk along the beach.
After our lunch there we continued our drive back down to London, with the last few miles taking us forever with the London traffic, but eventually made it home. Really nice relaxing weekend away, and no doubt we'll be looking to try one of the other Forest Holidays locations sometime soon enough :)
