This past weekend was our August bank holiday weekend and were lucky enough with some amazing weather, at least it didn't wait until everyone was back at work and then turn sunny and hot :) On Thursday last week, Claire and Jack flew over for a few days in London, and Uns had taken the last two days of last week off to spend with them. On Thursday, after they had arrived and spent the afternoon out at Stratford in the park there, we fired up the fire pit pizza oven in the evening for some home cooked wood fired pizza. Still not quite perfected the pizza making just yet, but getting there, one pizza dinner at a time! Then on Friday, after the three of them spent the day out at the London Zoo, I finished work and briefly stopped in over the road at the Three Compasses pub for a couple of evening beers there with the work guys, and then headed home and we ordered a takeaway curry for dinner for the three of us.
On Saturday morning, Uns had an appointment over in Denmark Hill, so once Jack had finished his breakfast and watched a movie, Claire and I headed into London Bridge with him to go up The Shard for some views over the city, especially since they hadn't been up to the top viewing levels of The Shard before. After some time up there, we then headed down, I popped across to Borough Market to get some meat for our braai later, then the three of us headed home, at which point Uns was back home too.
Once home, we grabbed a quick bite to eat, then all headed out to Crystal Palace for the afternoon, walking via the dinosaurs and then chilling out in the park for the afternoon. However, with Jack around, there wasn't a whole lot of relaxing and chilling out for the afternoon, but good fun nonetheless! After a few hours in the park, we headed home and fired up the Weber for our lamb braai for dinner that night. The original plan was for Uns and Claire to head over to Franks for a couple of hours, but with the weather being so mild and all so comfortable outside at home, they decided to stay at home instead, enjoying the evening outdoors.
On Sunday morning, we all headed out to Gatwick airport to drop them off for their flight back to Cork, and Uns and I then spent the majority of the afternoon outside in the garden soaking up the sun. That evening we walked up to Telegraph Hill Park for a while, then stopped in at Chai's Thai for dinner, followed by the park again for sunset, before heading home. Yesterday was again another amazingly warm day, and after a day outside in the sun at home, we headed over to Franks in the evening to watch the sunset from there.
Today's another sunny day again, but not quite as warm as the weekend was. We really were lucky with the weather to have had it so good over all the three days of the bank holiday (and all five days for Uns). Let's hope it stays like this for the month of September too!
