We're now just over half way into our (second) honeymoon, so thought I'd post a quick update from the past few days and finish the rest when we're back in London next week. On Tuesday I finished up at Qui after being there for 5 and a half years - a good bit of time I think. It was also a strange feeling finishing up with a job and knowing I was starting a new job right back in the same office, but with dcoEarn instead. Away
Anyway enough about work. On Wednesday morning Uns and I were up early and made our way up to Stansted Airport, had ourselves a quick breakfast there and then boarded the flight out to Alghero, Sardinia. After picking up our car at the airport we drove over to Hotel Calabona, a nice and easy 20 minute drive away. While checking in we were nicely upgraded to the honeymoon suite which is always a bonus, wasn't expecting that but wasn't complaining either :) For the afternoon we chilled out down by the pool and the little local beach they have in front of the hotel, soaking up some of that warm Italian sun. For dinner that evening we strolled along the promenade into town for dinner at Kings which had outdoor seating with a fantastic view of the setting sun over the ocean. Certainly a good start to the holiday honeymoon.
On Thursday morning we started off with breakfast in the hotel's outside restaurant, then took a walk into town to the harbour and decided to do a boat tour over to Neptune's Grotto and walked around the stalactite caves, which was just a circular walk into the caves and back, but still cool to see. The rest of the afternoon we relaxed by the pool and the beach and then that evening we made our way back into town for dinner and afterwards stopped off along the promenade for a couple of drinks and some music before heading back to the hotel.
Yesterday after some breakfast and some time down on the beach, we checked out and drove up to Stintino, about an hour's drive away. There we checked into Hotel Ancora and landed up getting completely scuppered with our hotel room. After such a nice stay in Alghero, we landed up with a pretty raw deal in Stintino with a very basic basement room without any view. After complaining and getting nowhere, we left the hotel and went for a walk to Le Pelosa Beach which was super busy, but it was their busy season I guess. From the beach we walked back and had pizza for dinner at Ristorante Pizzeria il Gabbiano before returning to the hotel.
This morning we were up fairly early for breakfast after a fairly bad sleep in such a hot humid room, and after speaking again with the staff they said they would upgrade us for our second night there. We then caught the shuttle bus to the beach and grabbed ourselves some sunbeds and had ourselves a decent beach day in the sun. When we got back this evening they had moved all our bags to a nice, decent room upstairs which overlooked the gardens with a sea view in the distance - so much better!!
After feeling a little bit better about the hotel we headed out for some seafood dinner just over the road at Ristorante Ancora Porticciolo, and now back at the hotel enjoying our room with a view (and some fresh air compared to the bunker from the first night!!).
