Just sitting now at Joburg Airport waiting for my flight back to London, after a few (sad) days out in SA which was always a trip I knew one day would have to happen. It was last Saturday after Noel and Megan's wedding when I got the phone call from the folks to say grandpa had passed away :( Even though it wasn't completely unexpected, it still came as quite a shock, as these things do. But managed to get myself a flight out on the Tuesday evening.
After getting picked up by the folks, we headed home for the morning and then later on over to Ethan's school to pick him up and take him home. The rest of the afternoon was just us around the house sorting everything we needed to for the funeral on Thursday. That evening I went up to Greg to spend a bit of time with the boys, with the folks joining a bit later for dinner there.
Thursday was the funeral, held at St. James' in Bedfordview and was at midday. It was a lovely service with the Moths involved too, exactly what grandpa would've wanted. After the service and some tea and cake next door, we headed home for the afternoon. That evening myself, mom and dad went down to Malagueta restaurant (where the Spur used to be) for a bit of steak for dinner.
On Friday I popped up to visit Nic and Kris and then went for coffee and a bite to eat at The Bread Basket in Greenstone Shopping Mall. After dropping Nic back home I made my way over to Greg and then picked up Ethan from school and the three of us stopped in at McDonald's for lunch. After an afternoon up at Greg playing with the boys, we grabbed Steers for dinner and then headed home.
Yesterday morning after a quick shop up at Greenstone, myself, Bev and the folks had lunch up at Peri Peri. After a bite to eat we took a drive up to grandpa's place and popped in there to do a bit of sorting out of some of his things.
From there it was over to Modderfontein with dad for Jonty's stag at the Fireman's Tavern which was good fun playing with fire :) It was also the SA vs Argentina rugby game on which we unfortunately lost. But at least the fun of the fire fighting made up for the rugby loss.
This morning was a day of visits and pop ins, starting off up at Bev's this morning, then Greg, Ethan and Rory popped into the folks' place, then myself and mom up to A6, then I went up to Greg's for a braai, followed by Bev coming round for tea and cake this afternoon. So a fairly busy last day. After that, it was time to pack up and head off to the airport where I'm waiting now for my flight back to London, after a sad visit, but definitely glad I could make it out.
