On Friday after work I headed straight home to quickly finish up the last of the packing before our camping weekend away. After grabbing the wheelie trolley and my backpack, I headed off to the station and met Uns on her train into London Bridge. From there we headed down to Etchingham, in East Sussex. The original plan once we got to the station was to catch a taxi over to Park Farm Campsite, a good 6 miles away, but with no taxis available for another hour and a half, we decided to pop over the railway lines to the Bistro at the Station restaurant for a pizza while we waited. Funnily enough, we almost didn't get pizza as we hadn't "pre-booked" but managed to sort out a pizza each, which arrived just as the taxi did, so got them as takeaways instead. After getting to the campsite, we hurriedly set up camp, just before it turned dark and had pizza instead of a braai for dinner.

On Saturday morning, after breakfast at camp, we decided to head out for a walk over to Bodiam Castle, which we originally thought was over an hour's walk away but turned into a short 20 minute walk instead. Bodiam Castle is a 14th-century moated castle near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. It was built in 1385 by a former knight of Edward III to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years' War. After walking around the castle and the grounds outside, we headed inside and explored the castle as well as climbing the various towers.

After a quick stop for tea and scones at the castle entrance, we strolled back to camp, chilled out there for a while until dinner time - where we actually got to fire up the BBQ unlike the Friday night where we had to rely on takeaway pizza :) Just after cooking it started to rain, luckily we had finished eating already and wasn't hard enough to put out the fire, so still got to sit around the campfire for the night!

Yesterday morning we decided to take a walk along the 'Park Farm to Bodiam Castle Footpath' alongside the River Rother, past the castle and then back again. Adjacent to the castle was the Senlac Classic Car Show & Craft Fayre which we could see from the walking path but decided not to go in. Instead we popped into The Castle Inn for a bit of a refreshment before heading back to camp.

Once back at camp we packed up, caught our taxi back to Etchingham station and then the train back to London. Certainly a nice relaxing weekend, even though the Friday did start out a bit stressful with us worried we'd be stranded at the station! But it all worked out alright in the end :)
