For a change, this past weekend actually didn't involve us doing or going anywhere - just a quiet chilled out weekend at home. There was plenty of sport on which kept us glued to the TV, but that was about it for really. Friday night was the first two quarter-finals: Germany vs France followed by Brazil vs Columbia. And Saturday night had the second two quarter-finals: Argentina vs Belgium followed by Netherlands vs Costa Rica. But my main attraction over the weekend was the Tour de France which was starting in the UK this year and had me fixated on the TV for the most part of the weekend. Together with all that, there was also the Wimbledon men's final on yesterday afternoon, so certainly not a shortage of sport to watch!

Uns and myself had originally thought of heading up to Yorkshire to try watch some of stages 1 or 2, but between the price of trains and the accommodation over the weekend we figured we might just save it and try head over to France one year and watch it there. But I did take a half day today and head down to Canary Wharf area to watch the third stage which was from Cambridge down to London, finishing up at The Mall.

I'd quite like to have been waiting somewhere along the finish when they came in but I assumed I'd have to have made it there fairly early this morning, so instead I decided on Aspen Way near by Canary Wharf. For the most part it was nice and sunny, except for two downpours - the first when the caravan procession was passing by and the second just before the riders came by. It really couldn't have timed that any worse. But still, I had a pretty good day out there along with the hundreds of thousands of other Londoners who came out to cheer the riders on.

After the two leaders who were about a minute in front and the peloton had passed by, the crowds began to disperse, mainly back into the towers of Canary Wharf, and I figured I'd jump on the tube and head over to Trafalgar Square to check out the fan park they've got over there. The other main fan parks were in Green Park and the Olympic Park, but thought I'd head into central London and have a peek as to what was going on there.

Obviously most of the excitement had finished, but there was still a decent crowd hanging around watching the band on stage and soaking up the atmosphere. After wondering around there and checking out some of the stalls, I called it a day and made my way home. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks of the Tour on TV, and hopefully it'll be back in the UK fairly soon!
