This morning was a fairly early start - both of us up for sunrise on the roof followed by a rather chilly swim in the pool before getting picked up by the Lundies and folks and heading out into the wine country for a bit of a road trip out there. We started off heading through Stellenbosch and stopping in at Stark-Conde Wines on the Oude Nektar Wine Estate, in the Jonkershoek Vallepics After a walk around there we made our way over to Boschendal which is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa and is located between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. We decided against going into the Manor House Museum and rather just take a stroll around the grounds and take in the scenery.

After Boschendal we headed through Franschhoek and up Franschhoek Pass which would've taken us up to the viewpoint except that they were doing roadworks half way up the pass which meant delays sitting in traffic. So instead we abandoned that idea and made our way back down into Franschhoek for a bit of a browse and walk around there.

After a bit of time in the little town of Franschhoek we made our way over to Solms Delta for a bit of wine tasting under the oak trees outside, surrounded by the vineyards and the Drakenstein mountain range. Not only is Solms Delta a wine farm estate, but it also features a museum that explores the slave heritage of the area. Interestingly enough, a percent of the wine sales goes back to the community working at the farm, and the estate takes care of the scholarship and healthcare of all employees and their families.

Once we were done with our wine tasting and wine buying, we headed up towards Paarl and stopped in at Fairview Wine & Cheese for a nice late afternoon lunch. Without a doubt, the most recognisable members of the Fairview team are the goats who call the famous goat-tower their home, which was built back in 1981. The goats who live in the tower represent the herd of more than 1000 female goats who provide milk to the Vineyard Cheesery each day. So needless to say, lunch today for myself and Uns involved a mixed cheese platter, which definitely lived up to it's expectations.

After our meal, we headed back to Cape Town, getting in a bit later than expected after hitting some traffic, and then popped down to visit Colin and Kathy for a drink. Dad/Adele had bumped into him in the shops and had invited us around for a drink. We stayed there for a couple and then myself and Uns got a taxi into town and dropped off at Rafiki's, a lively all-day hangout with a long balcony for drinks, music and sports TV.

We had previously driven up Kloof Nek Road a good few times and kept saying we should pop into Rafikis, so glad we eventually got around to it. After nachos and a few beers we had thought of trying to head elsewhere but with us not really knowing the local area we decided instead to grab a taxi back to the hotel and call it a night.
