On Wednesday night after dinner, I headed out to Greenwich after reading online about a fireworks display that would be set off from a barge in the middle of the Thames. Other than it being on a barge in the middle of the river directly opposite the Old Naval College, I couldn't find out much more about them or why they were happening. But I figured it was still worth checking out. They started just after 9pm, and didn't last more than 15 mins but certainly were massive. I wasn't expecting quite such a big display, but they certainly were impressive and at least I managed to snap a few pictures of them too too.

Then last night I headed out to Elephant and Castle to meet up with a photography group I'm part of - 'Dereliction, Demolition and Renewal'. It was their first meet-up and they had organised for us to enter the recently cordoned-off Heygate Estate in south London. It is currently due to be demolished as part of the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle area, and used to be home to more than 3,000 people. So last night was a good opportunity to get to see it before it all comes tumbling down. Apparently there's only one guy left in the estate and he's kicking up quite a fuss about having to move out, so we were told to avoid the quarter where he lives to avoid any issues. All a bit weird by the sounds of it, and really not entirely sure why anyone would want to still live there?

There were only 5 of us in the group which was a good size, meant you weren't needing to stand around waiting for others to have them hold the group back. We got to spend an hour in the estate, not an awful lot if time, but enough to walk around the outskirts and snap a good number of photos. We had to keep to the outer roads and paths to avoid any conflicts with the one and only remaining loser residents. It was cool to see the estate in such a run down condition, I guess I was kind of hoping to see inside some buildings and houses, but that didn't sound like an option. At least the outside of every building was covered in enough graffiti to count as derelict or proper urban decay. Something different for a Thursday evening I guess and hopefully there'll be more of these 'Derelict and Urban Decay' meetups.

After the hour and a bit around the estate, we headed back to the station and decide on Nandos for dinner, which I obviously never turn down. Was good to catch up about the walk and chat to the others too. From there I headed back to the station and caught the bus home.
