After six weeks of having the entire country engrossed in London 2012 with the Olympics and then the Paralympics, there was one more opportunity today to cheer on the athletes in the Victory Parade through town. Some 800 competitors travelled on 21 floats which made their way through the city over two hours, as well as them also being honoured with a flypast over Buckingham Palace. Most of the parade route, starting from Mansion House, was open to all - and many of the athletes on the slow-moving floats expressed surprise at how many people came out to greet them.

I was quite keen to see the Victory Parade, and since the office is quite near to Mansion House, I headed out at lunch time today across to river near to St. Paul's to try a catch a glimpse of the athletes as they headed past on the floats. I was there for quite a while before the floats arrived past, but managed to get a decent view of the athletes as well as some good pictures. There were apparently hundreds of thousands of people who lined the route throughout to cheer them all on, which was just brilliant. It took quite a while for all 21 floats to drive past, with each one getting an equally massive cheer as the previous one. After the last float went past, the crowd started to break up and everyone slowly made their way back to their offices, mostly likely with the thoughts of forward planning to Rio 2016... myself included :)
