On Friday afternoon was our work summer party, and this time the company had organised a treasure hunt around the London Bridge area to start off with, followed by dinner and drinks on The Yacht, a 126ft luxury steam yacht moored on the River Thames. At around lunch time, the Sheffield office and German office arrived and were all greeted, welcomed and introduced to each other (considering most of the company hadn't met the German guys). We were then split into our teams and we set off on the treasure hunt around the area, each armed with a GPS enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab and a set of clues to help us along.

One of the other teams decided they were going to the pub instead, so gave us their Galaxy Tab which helped us pre-guess the answer before using ours. Some call it cheating, we called it tactical. After running around the area, snapping pictures for various tasks and 'checking-in' at all the GPS points, we made it back to the office with a full flawless scorecard. Unfortunately, they credited the other guys with points for the photos so we landed up coming second, despite a 100% success rate in the questions and answers. I guess cheating doesn't always win :)

Once the various winners (and losers) had been announced, it was off across to The Yacht by Temple Pier. The weather wasn't fantastic, especially for a summer's afternoon but at least it wasn't raining! On board there we had a few drinks outside and various snacks until dinner was served. After dinner, the DJ cranked up the music, so did we with the drinks. Once we found out you could get Petrone at the bar on the tab, the night was sorted!

Temple Walkabout

Once it was time to leave the boat, it was straight over the road to Temple Walkabout, where I hadn't been in years! Was good to go back, briefly. I didn't stay all that long there - things were starting to go downhill and got out just in time I reckon. And then what a mission to get a taxi out of there, had to basically walk down to Vauxhall before the first one came past. Annoying. But better than catching a bus!

On Saturday afternoon, a few of us headed down to the Larrick to watch the SA vs England game. It turned out to be a rather awful game of rugby, and at least no one won it with the score 14-14. There just didn't seem to be anything in the game, and neither team looked like they wanted to win. So not the best game I've watched down there. I wasn't feeling up to much that evening, so didn't hang around for too long after the game and instead headed home to crash.

For lunch yesterday, Haig was in town briefly, so said we'd meet up at some point. He was over for Stuart's wedding, so wouldn't have had a lot of time, but managed to plan it on Sunday to meet at the Wellington pub by Waterloo Station. I don't think it's the best pub around, station pubs never are, but worked out to be the most convenient as Si and I were heading out to Hackney for Radio 1's Hackney Weekend festival, and Waterloo was en route.

I got there first, followed by Haig and then Si, Carol and Seamus as well. They were down in Putney so decided to pop by for lunch and a brief catch up with Haig. Lunch was alright there, nothing amazing, but good to see Haig again. He was struggling a bit - sounds like the wedding was rather large the night before. So just taking it easy for lunch. After a bit of time there, we all left and Si and I headed out towards Hackney Marshes, north east London.

The festival was held by Radio 1 and is the BBC's biggest ever free ticketed live music event to date, all forming part of the London 2012 Festival. Some of best acts we saw were Friction, Andy C and some of David Guetta. Unfortunately we missed Chase & Status as they were on in another tent without us realising. Oh well. Instead we chilled out in the sun for a bit, waited for Rihanna to come on, then left straight away. I was happy to see the first few minutes of her show then leave before the crowds - plus her show didn't particularly interest me. But the festival was real good, especially being free, outdoors and in the sun! Only problem was it being on a Sunday, but still a good day out!
