The bus from National Park to Wellington yesterday afternoon was fairly boring, considering it was just the Intercity bus and not part of the Magic Bus network which was hop on hop off. But that was always the plan. After arriving into Wellington main bus station, we grabbed some McDonald's to eat and then headed into town where our hostel was booked. Not sure we were all that welcome back to Si's cousins place, so instead Si had booked a place in central Wellington for us to crash these two night.

The others had been on their own road trip the past few days and were on their way back, so after Haig and I had found the place, checked in, we wondered next door to the pub, which was insanely busy and packed, and there we waited for the others to arrive. When they did, they weren't interested in the crowds, said a quick howzit and headed back up to the room.

Haig and I had said we'd meet up with Lizzy from the Magic Bus and her friend Cath I think, both who had been in Wellington for a couple of days already. They were over at Molly Malones Irish Pub, not too far away from the hostel and we had only planned on a quick catch up with them, definitely not a big night - well that was until we got to Molly's where the party was definitely kicking off, and being an Irish pub I guess that's no surprise! We stayed there for a few more than the initially intended one, and when they called it a night and Molly's looked to be closing, we got talking to a couple of locals who were moving onto another bar/pub/club down the road, so naturally, we tagged along with them.

We headed down the road and tried a couple of bars and clubs, but weren't able to get in, my fault completely since I was in shorts... after all the plan was just to say hi and not actually head out. Fast forward a good few hours and we're being bounced from a club. So without giving up hope, our last attempt was Kitty O'Shea's Irish Bar, which let us in without any hassle whatsoever. The music was pretty good, but there was hardly anyone in there. Oh well, better than hanging around in the street outside. That brings our ratio of Irish pubs to New Zealand cities to pretty much around the 1:1 ratio. Good times indeed!

We landed up staying there until closing, at which point we decided to grab a bite to eat and call it a night. The others were going on clubbing, but we decided we had done fairly well considering it was initially meant to be a fairly quiet night. Plus today was Si's birthday - the big three zero, so we knew it would be a big one!
