On Monday evening I headed out to Peckham after workand met up with Una, then down to Greenwich for dinner. The weather was pretty miserable, so unfortunately there wasn't any chance of sitting outside next to the river. Instead we decided on the Yacht pub, which is right on the river, so at least we had a decent view overlooking the O2 and the rest of Canary Wharf, from the comfort of inside the pub.

Then yesterday was a day out at the tennis, the second year I've managed to secure tickets in the Wimbledon ballot, this year was for centre court on day 2 of the championships. Last time was in 2008 when Luke and I had tickets for court number 1. Si and I got into the grounds a bit before midday, even though no play was scheduled to start on centre court until 1pm. The outside courts started a bit earlier, at noon, so we watched a few of the warm up games before finding our seats on centre court, ready for the day's play.

The first game up was Serena Williams vs Aravane Rezaï, which was a fairly easy win for Serena. Then following on from that was Roger Federer vs Mikhail Kukushkin, which was another easy game for Federer. We didn't expect them to be too challenging, but good to watch the big names play. After those two games, it was time for a change and didn't stay for much of the third game, which was Novak Djokovic vs Jérémy Chardy - instead we took a walk around the grounds and caught some of it on the big screen on the hill, or Murray Mount as it's generally called.

As the afternoon went on, the ground got busier and busier, but added to the atmosphere. It did also make it rather difficult to secure a good spot on the outside courts, but managed to still see a good number of different games while moving around. There was A lot of time was spent on the hill in the sun catching the games and highlights on the screen, and unfortunately we missed Maria Sharapova on centre court. Her game was unscheduled, and was going to depend on the timings of the top few matches, and missed seeing the announcement that she'll be on centre. Would've been good to see her play, but wasn't a big issue - still got to see a good number of other games.

We were extremely lucky with the weather too - there was plenty of rain about on Monday, and today's miserable as well, so even though centre court would still be able to play with the roof closed, it would've spoilt the atmosphere around the ground. And strawberries and cream in the day just don't taste quite as good. So definitely got lucky with the weather this time round.
