Both Friday evening and Saturday day weren't all that exciting around here. Stopped by the Anchor briefly on Friday after work with a few of the guys, then just been at home yesterday morning and during the day watching a bit of the IPL on TV. Actually watched quite a bit of it this year, especially since finishing the Herschelle Gibbs book - got me back into cricket again.

Then yesterday evening went through to Soho and met up with Will and Ryan at the White Horse near to the Gielgud Theatre off Shaftsbury avenue, who were there for Will's farewell from some or other job he's been doing at the theatre. Once they had shut we headed up to the Phoenix Artist Club which is a private members bar just under the Phoenix Theatre mainly for the theatre going people, luckily of which most of our group were.

It was real nice down in the bar area, a lot quieter than other bars in the area but the decor around the walls really gave it character. Eventually Will made his way, followed later by Ryan, at which point Si and I decided to head on over to the launch night of Acrylic, organized by Rich where Amanda was 'DJing' as well.

Acrylic Launch Night at the Phoenix

The venue was downstairs from the Phoenix near to Oxford street (no connection to the Phoenix we were in before) so not too bad a walk over there. Was good to catch up with the Sponge crowd again, most of who were out and had clearly been there sometime! Its always a good night out with them, and the club was alright - not a big fan of the indie scene but better than a lot of other options. Then as expected, down to Piccadilly and the night bus home. I do say it each time I'm out in town but need to make more of an effort getting out to Soho and the West End on weekends - always a good night out there.

Today was meant to be a first for me to donate blood over here, haven't given in so many years, so I decided to register and today was the first available slot in the area. Except... access denied! From being in Zambia within the past 6 months which is obviously a malaria area. Didn't even think of that at the time. Bummer.

Beer Can Chicken

But anyway, what I was successful in was cooking a 'beer can chicken' roast for dinner this evening. The last time I tried it it didn't work out so well, but managed just right today. I've had the Weber for 3 or 4 years or so and at last got around to actually using it as a kettle bbq, not just a standard grill braai. Plus got to play a bit of frisbee and boules in the back garden. So on a positive note, at least a more successful second half of the day.
