Yesterday was once again the annual Oxford Cambridge Boat Race down the river Thames, a tradition which started way in 1928 between the two universities where Cambridge sent a challenge to Oxford, and ever since then the loser of the previous years race challenges the opposition to a re-match. These days up to 250,000 people line the banks of the Thames to catch a glimpse of the boats as they head past.

With the starting line being almost under Putney Bridge, it makes for a good day out in Putney or Fulham, even if you only get to see the first few seconds, then catch the rest on the big screen or at a nearby pub. Either way - the atmosphere and vibe around there is what makes it all worth it.

Mike and Louis had decided to come up for the afternoon and met up with us down alongside the river before the start, then afterwards we met up with all the others who were over the road at the Golden Lion, in Fulham. We watched the end of the race from there on the TVs, which Oxford winning by quite some distance, bringing the head-to-head wins to 80 for Cambridge and 76 for Oxford. The Golden Lion probably not quite the best bar or crowd in the area, but a fantastic beer garden out the back, which made up for it, until the sun started to set and turned a fair bit cooler. Which is when we decided to head home and call it a day.
