Yesterday was our Cape Point and Peninsula day trip, starting off from Forries where we met up with Will, Jen and Chuck. From Forries, the six of us headed over to Fish Hoek for a quick refreshing swim and then made our way down past Simon's Town and onto Cape Point.

The wind yesterday was just insane, stronger than I can ever remember battling in, even more so than our Robben Island trip. It did also make the climb up to the Cape Point lighthouse that bit more interesting, or challenging I guess. The original lighthouse was built in 1857 and stands 238m above sea level. However, after a shipwreck back in 1911, the lighthouse was moved to the current location which stands at 87m above sea level. After a walk to the furtherest most most point of the peninsula, which has amazing views looking back at the original lighthouse and a decent view of the current lighthouse, we walked on down to the Cape of Good Hope for lunch and watched some of the wind surfers there making the most of the gale force wind and waves. Then we left the reserve and made our way back up the western coastal road towards Hout Bay via Chapman's Peak.

We took our time passing through Misty Cliffs, Kommetjie and then Chapman's Peak drive, stopping off at a few side stops along the way, mainly to appreciate the view of the coast line. The new road around Chapman's Peak was recently opened again in 2005 as a toll road, and I don't particularly remember the last time I travelled along that road, but you can certainly see all the safety improvements they've made it the road, after a fatal rockfall back in the 90s, apparently. Such an impressive stretch of road, and engineering!

After passing through Hout Bay, we headed back to Newlands to drop off Chuck, Will and Jen while Si, Justin and myself headed home to get ready and grab a few things for the New Years Party later that night at Giulz's place in Camps Bay.
