On Sunday evening I flew down to Cape Town, after an hour or so delay at the airport, but nothing too serious, just a delay with the incoming flight. After arriving, Si and Seamus came through and picked me up in the dirty brown beetle, and heading back to Si's folk's place in Rondebosch to drop my stuff. From there, we made our way into town, to Camps Bay, which was pretty much packed full of everyone down from Joburg by the look of things. We headed over to Karma Beach Lounge Bar, which was with all the other clubs along the strip, and stayed there a good few hours before heading back to Si's to crash.

Then yesterday morning, we started off fairly early and headed over to Fish Hoek to drop Seamus and have a quick swim there, which was rather nice and refreshing considering the water temperature! Once we were in the water, you turned numb got used to it and become more bearable. We weren't there that long, before heading back home to grab a few things and pack the car before our road trip over to Hermanus.

We headed out a bit after lunch in the direction of Somerwest West, then turned off past the Strand and Gordons Bay and continued along the coastal road which hugs the edge of False Bay all the way down to Pringle Bay, where we stopped off first for a break and some views across to the peninsula. From Pringle Bay, and a drive through the town/village, we stopped off at Stony Point, Betty's Bay which is home to a massive penguin colony, with 100's of the little guys there, and such fascinating things too, so made sense to spend a bit of time there. The next stop along was at Betty's Bay for a bit more scenery then finally arriving at Hermanus, our stop for the night.

We had booked for a night at Hermanus Backpackers, which was just a random hostel found on the internet. After finding the backpackers and checking in, we popped down to their beer garden for a beer and got chatting to a few of the people from around there for some advise on some good local seafood, which was apparently down by the harbour - top rated calamari from what everyone said. So at least that was dinner sorted.

We headed down to the Hermanus harbour and found the Quayside Cabin Restaurant, which looked more like a bit of a trailer shack rather than somewhere which was so highly recommended. But inside was impressive with the marine and seafood decor all over the walls. I had fresh line fish, calamari and chips for dinner, which was just amazing, and certainly among the better helpings of seafood I've had. Then we made our way back to the hostel, which was really one of the more impressive places I've stayed at in terms of hospitality and 'feeling at home' in a hostel. The entertainment was perfect - pool, darts, DJ and an open bar fridge, based on an honesty policy. Not often you come across that. After a good few games of pool, I hit the hay for a night's sleep ready for a trip to Gansbaai for a bit of shark diving the following morning.
