So it's Pancake Tuesday today... and that exactly is what? Basically, all Catholic and some Protestant countries traditionally call the day before Ash Wednesday 'Fat Tuesday'. The name referred to the common Christian tradition of eating special rich foods before the fasting season of Lent. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, it is often known as Pancake Tuesday, since pancakes are a good way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

Pancake Tuesday

It's a similar tradition to the past weekend of Karneval, where that is over a long weekend of over-indulging and excess-drinking. That sort of behaviour over here in the UK is just a another normal weekend :) So to compensate, we have Pancake Tuesday. To keep up the tradition, a good selection of pancakes were made by us at home tonight. Can't go wrong with a meal of nothing but pancakes... delicious!
