On Friday, had a couple of hours of work before heading off down to Wimbledon for a company lunch with Auto Trader. We took a walk up Wimbledon Hill where we went to a Thai restaurant for lunch, followed by a 'drink to two' in the at the Dog & Fox in the Village. As it more often than not happens, a drink or two turned into a few more than that and eventually landed up getting home just before 03h00 on Saturday morning.

Getting in at that time wouldn't normally be an issue with a bit of a lie in on the Saturday morning, except when you need to be at Heathrow at 8am to meet the folks :) They arrived yesterday for a couple of weeks visit over here, including a long weekend visit over to Ireland which should be good.

Once heading home and dropping the bags, we took a walk down to Putney, grabbed some lunch and made our way into town. Most of Victoria Embankment was closed off, which was due to the last stage of the cycle ride 'Tour of Britain'. After watching a few laps of the race, we took a walk down the Strand as well as a visit to Somerset House which was hosting the 2009 London Fashion Week. A bus ride from there took us over to Borough, and there we had a walk through the market, a cold pint at the Globe Tavern and an attempted pint at the George Inn - but gave up after waiting ages for a seat, or rather lack of any. Instead, back to Putney for a cold one at the Coat & Badge.

The plan for today was to first visit the 'Churchill Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms' and then take a walk up Parliament Hill - an area south east of Hampsted Heath with excellent views of the London skyline. With the possibility of rain in the afternoon, we swapped the itinerary around, starting off first with Parliament Hill. After some lunch on the heath, we caught a bus back to Camden Town, took a walk down the high street and then tubed it down to Westminster.

The rest of the afternoon we spent at the Churchill Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms - an underground complex that had been used as an operational command and control centre by the British government throughout the Second World War. Located beneath the Treasury building in the Whitehall area of Westminster, the facilities were abandoned in August 1945 after the surrender of Japan, and the Rooms were opened to the general public in 1984. After a full afternoon there, we landed up getting hurried along out of there due to it being closing time, so stopped off at the Duke of York for a quick beer, then onto Wagamamas in Putney for dinner.

Really had a good sightseeing weekend - especially that it involved a few things I hadn't done or seen before, which made it all the better. Even having lived here for a number of years, still so much I've either missed seeing/doing, or don't find the time to get round to them on the weekends. Which always helps when people come travelling and want to see the sights - I'm always up for that. The folks will carry on with the sightseeing tomorrow (and next few days) while I'm at work, then we'll meet up in the evenings - which I think works out best.
