After checking into the hostel, which was a bit further away than their "5 minutes from town" promise on the website, and a freshening up shower, we took a walk into the heart of Taormina, which is your typical Italian city - pizzerias scattered everywhere, opera singers out in the piazzas, tables and chairs from restaurants lining the walls of the stairs leading up and down to other terraces, and of course, the perfectly blue, cloudless sky just to add to the picture.

Last night dinner had dinner in town, and had pizza, again, but this time probably one of the tastiest I've ever had - the "Delizia" which is a combination of gorgonzola, mascarpone, mozzarella, nuts, ham, parmesan and honey to top it off. Amazing!

This morning was meant to be a day excursion out to the Alcantara Gorge, which is about an hour out of Taormina. However, after waking up and enquiring, we were told it would be too late as the bus passed through town extremely early. So unfortunately had to skip that. But made up for it by spending the day around town. First was the Teatro Greco, an ancient Roman theatre which is now used for concerts and theatre performances. It also has spectacular views of Taormina and Isolla Bella island. After the Teatro Greco, we spent the rest of the day on the beach, soaking up some of the sun and the (lack of) surf. I also cannot get enough of the gelato (Italy's variant of ice cream) over here, it definitely is the most delicious ice cream I've ever had. And making sure I get to try as many of the flavours I possibly can :)

We have an overnight sleeper train booked, which is expected here around half 10 this evening, and that will get us to Naples early tomorrow morning, from where we'll continue onto the Amalfi Coast.
