Yesterday morning was a nice early start for our 2 day trip away to the North West Province. We started off popping into Van Gaalen cheese farm near Hartebeespoort Dam for a brief visit and walk around there.
From there, we checked into Kwamahla Lodge, not too far from Sun City. A fairly quiet and smallish resort, but the cold pool was welcome in the hot and humid weather. The afternoon was spent in and around the pool, before taking a walk through the bush to the nearby lapa for a couple of cold ones while the sun set. In the evening we lit the fire, burnt some pinecones and had a dinner, before trying to fall asleep in the ridiculous humidity.
This morning we were up early - can't remember the last time I had to be up 6am. But all for a good cause - the Zip Line at Sun City, something I've been wanting to do for ages, and didn't get around to it last time I was back in SA. But this time it's sorted - already booked and paid for. After driving to Sun City, we found the welcome-center and Greg and I headed for the Zip Line. One word to summarize it: awesome! And why wouldn't it be - with length of 2000m, a height of 280m and an average speed of 120km/h - you can't be disappointed :)
The plan was then to spend the rest of the day in the Valley of the Waves, but without knowing, McDonalds had booked out the entire Valley of the Waves for a two day conference. So there went that idea. But anyway, we made up for it and spent the day walking around the hotels, did a tour of the Palace and managed to meet up with Dale in the afternoon who had come through to Sun City for lunch with the other Ivory Tree rangers. We managed to catch a game ride with Dale through the Pilanesberg en route to the lodge, where we got to see where Dale lives as well as the rest of the lodge.
After a few hours at the lodge, we decided to make tracks and got back home just a little while ago. That brings to the end our north west trip away, and an awesome flight on the Zip Line 2000. Well it's now Tuesday night, which means none other than a good night up at the Doors...
