I have always said I plan on seeing as much of the UK as possible, but last night wasn't quite what I had in mind...
So we go for a few drinks after work, all's good. Slowly as the night goes on, the numbers get less and less and there lands up being only a handful of us left. Just before midnight we decide it's time to leave and catch our trains home.
So I get to Waterloo and my train is at the platform, but not leaving for 10-15 minutes still. Seems like a good idea to put my head against the window for a bit until we start moving. Then, after what felt like a 2 minute nap, I hear the announcement "The next stop is Ashford & Staines, where this train terminates". Wait, Ashford, Staines... this isn't Putney. Panic. Sort of. Check the journey planner. Putney was about 8 stops ago. Realise that Staines is where Ali G lives. Laugh a bit. Damn.
No worries, I'll get the next train back and get off at Putney. No problem. The next train back is at 05h01... this isn't good. Then the rain starts. And not just a gentle drizzle, proper rain. I blame the people I work with. It's definitely not the beer's fault.
OK, call a cab. No problem. Waited about 20 minutes for them, but at least I had a comfortable ride home they dropped me off right outside my door. But it did cost £40 nonetheless. Note to self: a quick nap on the train is a bad idea!
