Aaaah, the end of a good long weekend. Over here, the public holidays are called bank holidays and a long weekend is known as a bank holiday weekend. So here's basically a overview of this bank holiday weekend just gone by...
Friday night Tom, Guy and myself went to the Walkabout nearby Leicester Square. The Walkabout is basically a pub-bar-club aimed at South Africans / Australians / New Zealanders - generally more focused at showing sporting events on the big screens but also a club on the weekends!
On Saturday, Justin, Kate and myself went to the Walkabout down the road from us, in Shepherds Bush, to watch South Africa play New Zealand. We were outnumbered completely by the Kiwis which was made worse by SA losing 26-45 to them. Oh well. On the up side, they had a drinks special, certain pints were less than two pounds, compared to the usual three - so we spent most of the afternoon drowning our sorrows in cheap beer - which also ruled out doing anything that evening :)
On Sunday I went through to Kentish Town to a club called Church - which is only open on Sundays from midday til 16:00 I think. It reminded me very much of The Doors from back in SA - but playing all the popular singalong, drunk songs! Really cool club, definitely gotta make a plan to head back there!
I left Church at about 15:00 and went through to Nottinghill for the massive Nottinghill Carnival which was over two days - Sunday and the bank holiday today. I walked around the festival area for a while before heading to McD's for some munchies and to sober up somewhat! After that, I met up with all my housemates who were also coming through to the carnival. After going for (more) drinks with people that Tom knows, about 20 of us all together, we then went to the restaurant "TGI Fridays" for dinner. Some of the others went to clubbing in Nottinghill but I decided to call it a night and made my way home.
Sunday morning, we went back to Nottinghill - with Monday being the main day of the carnival. We went first to breakfast and then headed towards the main streets where the parade was to be held. The Nottinghill festival is the largest festival in Europe, and apparently the second largest in the world after the Rio Festival. It attracks about a million people over the two days - the majority on the Monday. It is led by members of the Caribbean population who live in London.
Well that sums up the long weekend - was well enjoyed by all :)
