We're now about 5 or 6 days into the tour and its awesome so far - having a blast.
After checking in at the hotel and meeting our tour manager Louis (from South Africa actually), we had dinner and then all went out into town to a small little Irish pub. It was basically a get to know each other kind of evening, mingle here, chat there, have a beer or six, chat to people you've already chatted to but forgot and make an idiot of yourself (numerous times) and then repeat the process again.
After that a few of us decided to hit one of the Madrid clubs. Madrid, been the capital, should have a decent night life so seemed the right thing to do. Unless you land up in a gay club. Yip... some of the clubs have the occasional gay nights and we landed up at that. If it wasnt for the fact that we paid 22 euros (almost R180) to get it and then 8 euros for a beer, we wouldve left straight away. Get it??? Straight away? Ha ha. Ha. Oh man Im funny. But between the cost and the fact that the music was actually really good we felt we had to stay for as long as we could bear it. So we danced in our little circle and avoided eye contact with any guy around us... especially those wearing tank tops, lipstick and massive sunglasses - you get the idea I think. After a while on the dance floor and seeing more than I wanted to, we decided to leave and catch a taxi back to the hotel. Probably best.
The next day in Madrid we spent walking around the town and city sightseeing really, including the royal place of Madrid. That night we all went out for an awesome meal of traditional Spanish food, followed by a Salsa club, which was a lot better than the previous night's clubbing experience :)
The next day (Tuesday) we stopped in Toledo briefly for some sightseeing. The first stop was a panoramic view of the city and then had a look at the Gothic cathedral in the city as well as El Greco's house. All you people into art would know who that is... I just nodded and pretended to be impressed that I was in some famous dude's house.
From Toledo we drove to Cordoba where we stayed that night. That night we went to a local pub (for a change) and met more people on tour who hadn't come out much in Madrid. The next morning, still in Cordoba we walked around the famous Mezquita - a really impressive cathedral that used to be a mosque. It was built as a mosque and when all religions other than Christianity were driven out of Spain, it was converted into a cathedral so it has a unique look to it. Due to its size, it has over 1000 arched columns supporting the roof. Pictures don't really do it justice.
The next stop was here in Seville where we saw yet another cathedral, but this one was famous in that it holds the tomb of Christopher Columbus. After the cathedral and city sightseeing tour, we visited a bullring - the most respected bullring in Spain. Even though its not the biggest bullring - its apparently the greatest achievement for a bullfighter to fight in the bullring of Seville. Just if you ever need to know that. See... this website of mine is fun, interesting and now... educational. You can thank me via email.
Tonight we gonna head out and see what the night life in Seville has to offer. And if we can get by with no knowledge of Spanish. That always makes it more fun.
