Well here I am in Spain. Arrived this morning at 08:25 and now at my hostel.
I left London yesterday morning and caught the Eurostar across to Paris. Really cool train ride across - took only 3 hours to get to Paris and got to travel under the English channel at high speed. When I arrived in Paris I then had to figure out the Metro (underground) and head over from station Nord to station Austerlitz which is on the other side of Paris. I managed to work it out and got to Austerlitz where I had a 4 hour wait until my train to Barcelona.
I killed an hour by sitting at McD's which was just outside the station. Otherwise, walked around and joined everyone else and slept on the station floor until 20:00 when I boarded my train. Not the best but didnt want to walk much with all my bags.
The overnight train was OK - obviously not the most comfortable but glad I did it. Shared a cabin with a black French guy and some Chinese guy. Wasnt the most talkative cabin - but got a good nights sleep.
This morning I spent two hours finding my hostel :( Not cos it was hidden away but because the English map names and Spanish map names are so different I kept walking in the wrong directions. The Spanish word for "ticket" is "billet", the Spanish word for "street" is "carrer" and the Spanish word for "please" is "agradar". Its like they have a different word for everything. Oh well. But after 2 hours I worked it all out (sort of) and checked in. Seems alright, might stay here again after my Contiki later on in the month.
At the moment Im off to check out Barcelona in the crazy heat!
