We started yesterday off by visiting Fragonard, a French perfumery - basically a demo of how perfume is made and then had a chance to buy perfume if we so wished. From there we entered Italy and continued onto Pisa and had our cheesy photos with the Leaning Tower :) Great stuff!
When in Italy... do as the Italians. Or something like that. We all went and had pizza for lunch - seemed the right thing to do :) We then headed out to Florence, where we stayed last night and will be again tonight. We had lasagne for dinner - really good.
After dinner, about half of us went into town to a pub called Red Garter. Really nice little pub in the middle of Florence. Spent a few hours there before heading home. After the pub and in between a bottle of rum at the laundry, Shanan (crazy Australian guy) and I eventually got our washing done - managing to crack two and half hours sleep. Good times!
This morning we went into Florence, first to a tannery display. Florence is famous for its leather, silver and gold. After that had a guided tour of the city. I quite enjoyed Florence, had a characteristic, old, Italian look to it. Just like you see in the older movies... small alley ways winding through the city with cobblestone roads. During the tour we saw, amoung everything else, the (replica) statue of David. The original statue is in the Academia, which you need to book months in advance to go inside - so for us plebs they have a replica of the statue out in the open.
After walking the city for most of the day, we all went to a Florentine restaurant for a traditional Tuscan dinner. (Florence is the capital city of the region of Tuscany, thats where the Tuscan dinner thing comes from. Just if anyone wanted to know.) It was ok - could've been better though. From here, we're off to Space Electronica Disco in a little while - should be lots of fun! Will write about that tomor hopefully. As they say in Italy... ciao!
