On Monday we started off at Camden Town which is a market town so to speak. Very much like Bruma back home, but in a town. Awesome place to look for clothes - which I'll do when I get back after Ireland. After walking around there a while, Bianca and I headed off to try London Dungeon, but been a long weekend (Monday is a public bank holiday) it was way too busy so decided against that.
Instead of London Dungeon we walked down to Tower Bridge which is just down the road from where we were. Didn't go into the Tower Bridge Expo, thought we'd save that for later.
Just nearby there, they have the HMS Belfast on display made into a museum. Its an old warship which was used up until 1970 about and has now been open to the public. We spent a good 3 hours walking around inside and around... very interesting. They're recreated everything inside to look and seem like its still a working ship - with wax models in all the rooms (guys sleeping on the bunks, chef in the kitchen and so on), as well as the sounds and smells of the kitchen, dining areas, surgery, etc. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
After lunch at the pub next to the Thames, took a walk away from the bridge to get a better view of the opening of Tower Bridge. They have a daily timetable of when the bridge opens so thought that would make a good photo opportunity. They apparently open Tower Bridge about 900 times a year, so sometimes could be 15 times in one day and might go a month without opening. Luckily our timing was good and managed to watch them open for a sailboat to pass through.
After the opening and closing, we went into Tower Bridge and walked around the inside. We climbed up the stairs of one of the towers and walked around inside and across the top between the two towers. Unfortunately the weather was lousy so didn't get a very great view from the top but got to see more than from the ground level. From there we went down to the engine room and got to see how the bridge is operated and compare the original mechanical system to what they have today. Interesting and well worth it I would say.
Because it only gets dark after 9 or so, there's so much more you can fit into an average day. So from there went to walk around Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. I had already walked around there, but didn't have my camera and Bianca hadn't been there so decided to have a look and take a bunch of photos. From there, walked around Soho which was more interesting at night than during the day.
To end off a pretty busy day, tried to go see St. Pauls Cathedral at night but the cold and the wind had picked up so landed up freezing and wasn't really worth staying and decided to head off home.
